Abstract

A precise description of the diaphragm's location, shape, function and relation to brass playing, informed by physiological knowledge. The reality of the diaphragm is contrasted with widespread misconceptions among brass students and teachers. Includes a description of an experiment where a group of brass teachers observed their own diagrams using a fluoroscope while attempting to control or arrest its motion (to no avail).
